Our client is a rapidly expanding UK Power and Independent Connection Provider (ICP) contractor is seeking a high-calibre Commercial Director.
This strategic appointment is designed for a commercially astute leader to oversee the financial health, contractual integrity, and sustainable growth of a business operating at the forefront of the UK’s energy transition
The Role
The Commercial Director will hold ultimate responsibility for the commercial performance of the business, reporting directly to the Board. The role requires a balance of rigorous financial control and forward-thinking risk management within the High Voltage (HV) and multi-utility infrastructure sectors.
Commercial Strategy: Developing and executing a commercial framework that supports the company’s ambitious growth targets within the ICP and DNO (Distribution Network Operator) markets.
Contractual Leadership: Leading the negotiation of major frameworks and high-value bespoke contracts, ensuring robust protection under NEC4 or JCT suites.
Risk Mitigation: Overseeing the identification and management of commercial risks across the project lifecycle, from initial tender to final account.
Financial Oversight: Driving departmental excellence in CVR (Cost Value Reconciliation), cash flow forecasting, and the management of work-in-progress (WIP).
Procurement & Supply Chain: Enhancing supply chain resilience by fostering strategic partnerships with key equipment manufacturers and specialist subcontractors.
Team Development: Mentoring and scaling a multi-disciplinary commercial team, including Quantity Surveyors and Estimators, to ensure consistent best practice.
The Person
The successful candidate will be a commercially driven professional with deep roots in the UK power.
They must possess the gravitas to influence at board level and the technical understanding to navigate complex engineering constraints.
Degree-level qualification in Quantity Surveying, Law, or Commercial Management.
Expert knowledge of JCT/ NEC3/4 contracts, particularly Options A and C.
Proven track record in a senior commercial role within a Power, ICP, or Utilities environment.
