Senior Structural Engineer

This role will require relocation to San Antonio. Relocation package will be provided for US or Canadian applicants ONLY and discussed on an individual basis.

Position Summary

The Senior Structural Engineer serves as the technical authority for structural design, analysis, and validation of Aerial Work Platforms (AWPs). This role ensures the delivery of robust, safe, and compliant structural systems across boom lifts, scissor lifts, chassis, platforms, and all load-bearing assemblies.

The successful candidate will lead structural concept development, conduct advanced finite element analysis (FEA), define load cases, review prototype testing results, and ensure compliance with global standards throughout the full product lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

Structural Engineering Leadership

Lead the design and structural analysis of boom, scissor, chassis, and platform assemblies.
Develop structural architectures aligned with performance, durability, manufacturability, and cost objectives.
Perform detailed FEA modelling, fatigue analysis, and simulation correlation.
Ensure structural integrity across all duty cycles and extreme operating conditions.

Technical Execution and Compliance

Ensure all designs meet applicable ANSI, CSA, CE, ISO, and other global AWP regulatory standards.
Produce high-quality engineering documentation, including DFMEAs, design reviews, and technical reports.
Partner with Test and Validation teams to define structural test plans and interpret results.
Lead root cause analysis for structural issues and implement corrective actions.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Support New Product Introduction (NPI) programs to achieve structural and safety targets.
Collaborate with Current Product Engineering to resolve field issues and drive continuous improvement.
Work closely with Operations and Manufacturing Engineering to optimize designs for production.
Ensure structural-critical features are maintained throughout prototyping and validation phases.

Technical Leadership and Mentorship

Act as the subject matter expert for structural engineering within the Access division.
Mentor and develop junior engineers in analysis methods, design principles, and best practices.
Contribute to engineering standards, process improvements, and innovation initiatives.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.
Extensive experience in Aerial Work Platform (AWP) structural design is required.
7+ years of structural engineering experience, including advanced FEA and fatigue analysis.
Strong knowledge of welded structures, high-strength materials, and load-bearing design principles.
Experience working with global regulatory standards for AWP equipment.
Proficiency with structural analysis tools such as ANSYS or Altair.
Proven ability to collaborate across global engineering teams.
Experience with prototype development and test correlation.
Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and production processes.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Siemens NX and Teamcenter.
Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification.
