Base Salary: £120k

Our client is a growing Civils and Infrastructure contractor who has developed a reputation for quality delivery on frameworks and projects.
Due to a combination of succession planning and the implantation of a bold growth strategy, the are now looking to appoint a commercially minded Commercial Lawyer to join its specialist Infrastructure team.
This role is designed for a Commercial professional who enjoys the intersection of high-value contracts and heavy engineering.
The successful candidate will move beyond the theoretical, working at the heart of the civil engineering sector. They will be responsible for safeguarding the commercial interests of the business while facilitating the delivery of critical national infrastructure, from transport networks to renewable energy hubs.
The Role
The Commercial Lawyer will serve as a key business partner, overseeing the legal framework of complex engineering operations:
Contractual Architecture: Designing and negotiating bespoke commercial agreements and industry-standard suites, with a particular emphasis on NEC 3/4 (Options A–E) and FIDIC frameworks.
Supply Chain Management: Advising on high-stakes procurement processes, sub-contractor appointments, and framework agreements for plant, materials, and specialist labour.
Risk Mitigation: Identifying commercial bottlenecks and legal liabilities within engineering blueprints, specifically regarding ground conditions, design liability, and interface risks.
Strategic Project Support: Providing ongoing counsel to project directors on commercial positioning, variations, and “pain/gain” mechanisms to ensure financial objectives are met.
The Person
Sector Depth: Significant experience working within or for the civil engineering, utilities, or heavy infrastructure industries.
Commercial Acumen: A sharp ability to balance legal risk against the commercial necessity of keeping a project moving and on budget.
Technical Literacy: The ability to interpret technical scopes of work and translate them into robust legal obligations.
Qualifications: A Commercial leader with a strong background in commercial or construction law.
