Role: Engineering Director
Salary: £120,000 plus package
Location: Based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia covering GCC (Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates)

Applicants must be based in Saudi Arabia or have extensive experience (min of 5 years) of working the Saudi Arabian market.

The Engineering Director will lead and manage the engineering and maintenance functions across the company’s fleet. This role is critical to ensuring that all equipment is safe, compliant, reliable, and operating at optimal efficiency.

This role will set strategic goals for engineering efficiency and increased productivity and analyse current processes and performance, recommending solutions for improvement where necessary.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

Develop and implement the engineering strategy aligned with business goals and growth plans.
Provide input into company-wide strategic planning, particularly regarding fleet investment and asset management.
Lead CAPEX planning for fleet upgrades, replacements, and new acquisitions.

Repair, Maintenance and Reliability Planning

Oversee the maintenance, repair, and servicing of all fleet, ensuring minimal downtime.
Develop and implement predictive, preventive, and corrective repair programs.
Direct planning and scheduling efforts for maintenance and repair work.
Monitor implementation of Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM) program.
Analyse performance metrics and develop improvement plans.
Implement reliability excellence practices and lead failure analysis.
Conduct audits of critical asset maintenance.
Make recommendations for capital equipment replacement.
Manage manpower, contractor, or equipment scheduling.
Lead sustainability efforts to reduce environmental impacts.

Team Leadership

Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineering managers, supervisors, technicians, and support staff across multiple locations.
Drive a culture of accountability, high performance, and safety.
Set KPIs and performance metrics for engineering teams.
Collaborate with HR for team leadership and a productive environment.

Budget & Cost Control

Develop and manage the engineering budget, including labour, parts, outsourcing, and capital investments.
Identify cost-saving opportunities through improved processes, sourcing, and technology.
Oversee procurement of parts, tooling, and workshop equipment.

Fleet & Asset Management

Oversee life-cycle management of the fleet, including acquisition, maintenance, and disposal.
Use data-driven approaches to optimise fleet performance and reduce operational costs.
Implement and maintain asset tracking and maintenance systems (e.g., telematics).

Continuous Improvement & Innovation

Lead engineering improvement projects to enhance efficiency, safety, and equipment uptime.
Evaluate and introduce new technologies (e.g., automation, electric or hybrid equipment).
Liaise with OEMs and suppliers to stay up to date with latest advancements and best practices.

Safety & Environmental

Ensure a culture of safety in all operational activities, conforming to health, safety, and rights regulations for employees and customers.
Collaborate with QHSE and senior management to ensure health and safety compliance with maintenance regulations and engineering standards.
Manage incident investigations and corrective actions as needed.
Adhere to company policies and safety regulations to ensure compliance.

Experience Requirements:

5+ years at senior management/directorship level with a demonstrable track record of successfully leading a culturally diverse team while establishing a high-performance culture.
Proven experience in a senior engineering or technical operations leadership role, ideally within heavy plant hire, construction equipment, or related industries.
Excellent knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic systems in heavy equipment.
Demonstrated ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams across several locations.
Sound understanding of HSE regulations relevant to plant operations.
Commercial acumen with experience managing budgets and capital investments.
Proficient in asset management systems, telematics, and data analytics.
Strong, confident people manager capable of creating and maintaining team spirit, motivating and developing staff, and managing performance as required.
