Overview

Our client is a leading name in the construction equipment rental industry. They are seeking a Director of Engineering to oversee their fleet operations in the GCC region.

This strategic leadership role will shape the future of the company’s aerial and powered access fleet across multiple markets – ensuring outstanding performance, reliability, and lifecycle value.
Applicants must be willing to re-locate to the GCC Region (re-location help will be provided) and must have an in depth knowledge of the regions markets.
Role Purpose

The Director of Engineering will take full ownership of the company’s equipment assets throughout their lifecycle – from strategic acquisition and CAPEX planning through to maintenance optimisation, fleet modernisation, and sustainability initiatives. You will combine technical excellence with commercial insight to maximise uptime, performance, and return on investment.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic & Financial Leadership
• Define and deliver the fleet engineering strategy in alignment with business growth plans.
• Lead long-term CAPEX planning and fleet investment programmes, driving value and lifecycle efficiency.
• Advise senior leadership on equipment renewal, performance improvements, and capital optimisation.
• Monitor engineering KPIs, utilisation data, and cost metrics to support data-led decision making.

Fleet & Asset Management
• Oversee multi-country fleet operations and ensure consistent engineering standards across depots.
• Manage full asset lifecycle, including specification, acquisition, maintenance, refurbishment, and disposal.
• Implement predictive and preventive maintenance regimes to reduce downtime and extend machine life.
• Maximise telematics and digital asset management systems for operational visibility and performance tracking.

Maintenance & Reliability
• Lead maintenance, inspection, and compliance programmes across the fleet.
• Drive reliability-centred maintenance and continuous improvement across engineering teams.
• Ensure efficient supply chain management for parts, tooling, and maintenance contracts.
• Champion sustainability initiatives, including energy-efficient technologies and emission reduction efforts.

Team Leadership & Development
• Lead, coach, and inspire a diverse, geographically dispersed engineering organisation.
• Build a culture of accountability, safety, and innovation across the maintenance and technical teams.
• Collaborate closely with Operations and HR to ensure optimal resource planning and workforce development.

Budget & Cost Control
• Manage engineering budgets and capital projects across multiple territories.
• Identify efficiency improvements through technology, procurement partnerships, and optimised maintenance.
• Report on financial and operational performance metrics to senior management.

Safety, Quality & Compliance
• Promote a safety-first culture and uphold the highest standards of quality and compliance.
• Ensure all engineering practices comply with health, safety, and environmental standards.
• Lead equipment audits, investigations, and continuous improvement programmes.

Candidate Profile
• Minimum 8 years’ leadership experience in fleet, plant, or equipment management within the heavy construction or access equipment sector.
• Strong understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems across diverse fleets.
• Proven background managing large-scale CAPEX programmes and engineering budgets.
• Experience working with advanced telematics and asset management platforms.
• Commercially astute, data-driven leader with exceptional communication and negotiation skills.
• Fluent English required; other languages advantageous.
• Willingness to travel across markets as required.
